In a modern world and internet era, traditional toys seem to lose on popularity. However, they are still considered as best options for kids of all ages to have fun and learn along the process. The age factor plays possibly the most important role here as you can’t buy the puzzle for age 3 or under to a teenager and expect it to have fun with it. He/she could have some fun for about 30 seconds and that’s it. We’ll give you a recommendation for all age categories so that you get a better picture of how this works. We are looking forward to your suggestions as well.

Five-year-olds

First, five-year-olds are giving you a lot of room for improvisation. You can choose between gender and non-gender toys, but many of choices can find itself in any year category. For instance, whether you have an infant baby or a 5-year old rascal, buying them Tobbles or Squigz is a good way to ensure that they will have some fun. Early melodies pound and tap bench or any of its substitutes are also a good choice, and so are all kinds of soft balls and stuffed animals. If you are buying your kid a toy car or something similar, pay close attention to age restrictions.

Babies and Toddlers

Babies and toddlers shouldn’t be given the opportunity to break or disassemble their toys so single-part toys are the best choice. Of course, as kids grow and become more aware of their surroundings, you can gradually start to buy them more complex toys. 2 or 3-year-old’s are often ready for some mind exercises and easy jigsaw puzzles or number and alphabet-based puzzles could go a long way of teaching your kids the basics before they get to school.

Number snail

There is no kid that doesn’t deserve to have its own vehicle since the age of 1 and above. This is the part where you can be creative. Buying them their own mountable tractor or firetruck could be a good idea, especially if it goes along with your own lifestyle. Again, choices should be made in accordance with your kid’s age. One-year-old shouldn’t be presented with close-resembling replicas as they tend to have more sharp edges than those specially made for this age category.

Baby tractor

5-year old kids are already quite aware of their surroundings and have developed mechanics, both physical and mental ones. This is the time where you get them more complex mind games, and a perfect opportunity to present them with their first bicycle, whether with assisting wheels or without them. Just push them and hope for the best. Joke on the side, though, assist wheels are a good thing to have at this point, and maybe you can get the chance to push them after a year or so. 5 to 7 years of age is the time in which choices made could greatly affect, or even define your kid’s life. If you want your kids to become athletes, this is the perfect time to introduce them to the ball.

Bicycle

Any ball would do, but they’ll most likely give you the hint of which sport they like the best. Girly toys for this age include the renowned Barbies while Action Man or any other superhero figurine is a perfect choice for a boy. At the age of 7 or 8, it might become the time to buy your kid their first video game console. It doesn’t have to be the latest console, and we sure know that there are plenty of options out there. You could buy them Playstation 3 or Xbox 360, and then after a year or so, if they liked them, get them the newest versions of these consoles (PS 4 or Xbox One). However, some games aren’t meant for them and parental advisory is advised. Lego sets have been popular for more than 60 years and for a good reason too. Your kids could be introduced to Lego world at pretty much any given age, but real enjoyment starts when they become accustomed to small parts. And, boy, are these modern Lego sets fun or what?

Barbie and Action Man

We don’t want to exclude Rubick’s cube from the picture, but it is questionable in which category to put it. You could buy it to your kid at the age of 5 without any problems, but also at the age of 15 for that matter. However, doing the latter will probably make them delete you from friends list on social networks. You have been warned. In general, after the age of 10, you’d better start listening to their demands and buy them what they deem to be the most interesting thing. There are all kinds of remote-controlled toys that could be a good choice for a 10-year old. Skateboard and roller skates are also a fine choice, and so are their modern equivalents, but don’t be surprised if your loved ones come home with their knees or elbows injured. That’s why elbow and knee pads are for.

Teenage years

At the end of their childhood and at the beginning of their adolescent years, things become increasingly difficult. Previously given advice should be kept in mind here as well. If you haven’t already bought your kid a computer, age of 15 is the last chance for you to do so before he/she finally takes over your’s. PC isn’t technically a toy, but can be utilized for fun too, and what are toys for?!

Eighteen-year-olds

Finally, the age of 18 is the time when your kid becomes mature (or, at least, that’s what they think). He/she is still your kid, though, but not in the eyes of others, and certainly not in their own eyes. This is the time when lucky ones even get their very own car and get the driver’s licence. Motorcycles are also a fine option, especially if your loved ones show a greater affinity to two, rather than four-wheelers. If you don’t know what to buy them for their 18th birthday, you can never go wrong with Rubick’s cube.

rubiks cube

After all, they are now old enough to move away, and what better way of pointing them out this fact than buying them Rubick’s cube when they expected a car or a boat. This kind of goofy affection will certainly make them want to go far away for a very long time, and graduate in the process. But seriously, If Rubick’s cube is your choice for such an important occasion, buy them something bigger to go with it. Just to be on the safe side.
